The Brotherhood of Darkness
Because of internal bickering of past Sith factions, Lord Kaan developed a security force to not only ensure his safety,
but that of other presiding Council Members as well. Kaan’s loyal guards have
prevented much of the infighting among the members of the Brotherhood.
For this reason Kaan developed a triangle of security by creating
three separate sects of guards, each with their own responsibilities and
duties. The highest rank of guards is the Black, followed by the Red. The third
sect of elite guards is Kaan and the High Council’s personal sentries, referred
to as the Gold Sect.
The primary function of the Red Sect is the patrol of Kaan’s
outer perimeter, representing the security force of the Brotherhood itself. The
Black Sect is responsible for Kaan’s inner security. The Gold Sect is
essentially Black Guards who have been assigned personally to High Council
Members; they can be identified by their gold/red markings on their uniforms
and helmets. Fundamentally, the Red Guard serves as the breeding grounds for
the much prized Black Guards. Promotion is earned by years of service, ability
– both physically and mentally, and by one’s Force potential. One can also
challenge their superior to garner promotion within their own Sect.

Tiris’
ability with a lightsaber has been unmatched. After only five years of Red
Guard service, he made the rank of Sergeant and boldly challenged the presiding
Captain of the Black Guard to a saber duel. The winner of the contest would be
promoted and preside over all of Lord Kaan’s personal guards. Challenges of
this sort were not frequent within the ranks of the Brotherhood, but happened
from time to time none the less. Tiris’ challenge, however, garnered much
skepticism and flack from within the ranks of both the Red and Black Guards,
for these challenges always came within the same Sect. What he was proposing
was a cross over, and a challenge of that kind had never been made. This
enraged Tiris to the point where he boldly brought the matter upon the Council.
With Lord Kaan presiding, he was allowed to argue his point. He reminded them
that since the position had been left vacant by the removal of the former
presiding Captain, there had been no challenge for the title of Captain of the
Guard. He accused the Council of being weak by just giving the position to the
next highest ranking guard, instead of standing by the ‘Credo’ of the
Brotherhood itself.
He challenged
their belief in ‘Rule by the Strong’ that Lord Kaan had used to gather opposing
Sith Lords, and recruit more than twenty thousand devoted dark followers. Using
this tactic, Tiris was ultimately granted his request. Many Council members
baulked at the young man, pointing out that he had neither the skill or
experience to defeat the present holder of that title, Captain Tizu. During
initial contact, Tiris received a saber wound to the left side of his face, and
it looked as if the Captain would waste little time with the arrogant youth.
Tiris recovered quickly, and came at Tizu with such speed that the Captain had
no option but to back away. In doing so, Tizu made a fatal mistake and the
young Sith took his head off with one clean swipe.
Lord Kaan and
his fellow Council members were present, along with a handful of the highest
ranking guards from both Red and Black Sects. Before all in attendance Lord
Kaan promoted Tiris to the rank of Captain. Tiris’ awesome display of speed and
ability impressed Kaan greatly, and from it he saw an opportunity he could
possibly exploit in the near future. Tiris is an exceptionally skilled
combatant, and has taken Kaan’s belief to its extremes. Tiris has presided over
the Black Guards for the past five years and still to this day none have
challenged him for the title.
Captain
Tiris, under Lord Kaan’s direct orders, is personally responsible for the
eradication of Commander Bane’s followers and members of his Special Operations
Sect during the second battle of Ruusan, while Bane led troops in battle on the
planet’s surface. This was in direct response to a perceived coup that Kaan
detected: that many of Bane’s devoted believers may soon attempt to overthrow
him and the Council entirely, therefore putting the prophesized being, the
“Sith’ari”, in position for the New Beginning the ancient legends spoke of.
Kaan’s
refusal to allow Captain Tiris to eliminate Bane in addition infuriated him as
it did with the majority of presiding High Council Members. Tiris vowed before
the Council, “Bane will fall by my hand, and no other.”
With great detest, Captain Tiris is
ordered by Lord Kaan to undertake a mission under the command of Commander
Bane.

Under the banner of Lord
Kaan, the Army of Darkness boasted more than 20,000 devoted dark force users,
plus legions of recruits. For more than two years, Kaan’s army waged war
against the Republic and the Jedi. At the battle of Yag’Dhul, the Army of Light,
led by Jedi Master Lord Hoth, turned the tide in the battle and ultimately the
war. For the past 18 months Lord Hoth continues to chase down Kaan and his Army
of Darkness across the galaxy in an outright attempt to eradicate the Sith
entirely.
In a highly controversial
move after the appalling events of Yavin IV, the Jedi Council approved the
‘Eradication Act’ in an effort to finally silence the Sith threat that has
persisted on and off since their first encounter almost five thousand years
ago. The Brotherhood, victorious in the first two battles have subsequently
lost the past four engagements. With merely two thousand followers remaining,
Kaan and the Brotherhood retreated from the surface of Ruusan and have now
barricaded themselves deep within caverns below.
