Considered by
most an outsider, Commander Bane travels upon a razor’s edge within the
Brotherhood of Darkness. His refusal to train more than one student nearly
ended his existence, and that of his apprentice. Bane had been secretly
training Virus ever since he found her, without Kaan or the High Council’s
knowledge or approval. Bane was removed from the rank and file of the Guard
Sect for his actions, and was stripped of his rank.
In the years
leading up to Kaan’s grand assault upon the Republic, Bane and his apprentice
were branded as bad blood, and have been ostracized by their fellow Brethren.
Although they were allowed to stay on Korriban, they were not allowed to depart
or intermingle with other Brethren, and had to live on the outskirts of the
Academy. Bane continued to train Virus during this period, and with time she
grew from mere adolescence into a strong, independent woman. On occasions,
unbeknown to her Master, Virus would ascend the courtroom walls in the cover of
darkness, and perform her own recon of sorts. On one particular outing she was
caught by one of the High Council members, Lord Zhan. Quite suprisingly, the
wise old Lord did not call out for the guards, but for her silence instead.
They would continue to meet from time to time, and Zhan would ultimately
enlighten Virus and admit to her what he believed Bane truly is, and his
foretold destiny.
Just months
before the instigation of the war, Kaan called for an undisclosed meeting of
the High Council at the
