In order for him to gain enough support to rival the Republic, and finally take utter revenge upon the Jedi, which he often referred to as the ‘Light’, Kaan, over many years, devised an elaborate plan. A plan that, in the end, would place him in what he believed to be his rightful place - HIS destiny – RULER OF ALL. Kaan stated to rival factions, and to all of those of akin beliefs, that he had devised a way to overthrow the Republic; but most importantly, as he often boasted, “We shall finally extinguish the Light FOREVER.” Under this guise, Kaan sought to establish a galaxy-wide dictatorship of ‘Rule by the Strong’, with himself serving as Supreme Ruler. With his knack for diplomacy and his charismatic nature, he enlisted fellow Brethren with great ease. He put forth an open decree; He stated that all brethren who joined the Brotherhood would be treated with equality, and those that headed up rival factions would be granted the title of Lord, and would hold a seat upon the High Council of the Brotherhood of Darkness. Masters who presided over the Korriban Training Academy were also granted the title of Lord. With this method, Kaan was able to enlist several rivals, and ultimately gather enough support to create a war machine capable of devouring all that stood in their path.

When he felt the time was ripe, and with the Republic unaware of the formation of an army primed and ready for service, Kaan unleashed his forces upon the Republic. Under the banner of the ‘Army of Darkness’ his surprise attack nearly split the Republic in two. Kaan attacked several key inner core worlds and was able to secure them with great ease. The Corellian Trade Spine, the Rimma and Perlemian Trade Routes, and the Hydian Way were all blocked at vital points by Kaan’s forces. The Republic was completely caught off guard, and in haste began to form an army to combat Kaan and his dark followers. But by the time the Republic had established this defense force, the Army of Darkness’ domain had already encompassed over three quarters of Republic territory. The Republic was on the verge of utter collapse when Lord Hoth, a highly esteemed Jedi Master, pledged to mobilize a force to repel Kaan and his followers. He encouraged believers of the Light to join him, and thus created an army of force wielders ready to combat the evil that had been thrust upon them, and all peaceful beings of the galaxy. With his newly formed army, dubbed the ‘Army of Light’, and with the Republic military forces, Master Hoth took command and began to battle the Army of Darkness, in an effort to both re-open trade routes previously cut off, and to free the worlds captured by them. For more than two years, arduous battles were fought throughout the galaxy, but Hoth and his forces continued to persevere.

At the battle of Yag’Dhul, the Army of Light finally turned the tide of the battle, and ultimately the war. Kaan’s forces then secretly retreated to Yavin IV, and were able to stay undetected for several weeks. Lord Hoth eventually discovered the Dark Army’s whereabouts and a grand assault was prepared. Although Kaan and the Brotherhood were able to avoid the assault the travesties committed by him and his followers to the inhabitants, the Brotherhood’s unrelenting passion to fight to the last man and destroy all about them murdering innocents, and the molestation of the planet itself, appalled many throughout the Republic. Due to the unforgivable events of Yavin IV, the Jedi Council approved a highly controversial measure. The order was given to finally silence the Sith threat that has persisted since their first encounter almost five thousand years ago.

For the past 18 months, Lord Hoth has pursued Kaan and his minions across the galaxy, in an outright attempt to eradicate the Sith entirely. Kaan and the Brotherhood now find themselves barricaded deep within the caverns below a great valley on the planet Ruusan. The Brotherhood, victorious in the first two battles, has subsequently lost the past four engagements. Merely 2 thousand followers remain.
