Construction of the cave set that
would serve as the War Room commenced in early December 2006. It served as
several sets throughout filming - including hallways, Bane’s sanctuary, and other
various smaller scene requirements. It also housed a green scene facility
adjacent to the cave set. This ‘green’ area spanned more than 24ft long by
12ft tall. At one end of the area an entire cube was constructed complete
with green floor and partial ceiling to do various matte shot sequences. |

Pictured below is the podium in
which the Artifact calls home. Donato Cocuzza built the substructure of the
podium and set up its inner workings. Carving and shaping of the unit fell to
me, as completed the final detailing, ring construction, paint work and the
like. |

Pictured below is the fortress set in various
stages of construction. The fortress was constructed from plaster of
Paris, scrap metal mesh, news paper, junk lumber, and many rolls of plaster
cloth. |

Pictured below are Donato Cocuzza and I (behind
the camera that is), beginning to build the War Room set. The set was
approximately 50 feet long, 20 feet wide, and about 16 feet tall. The set was
constructed over several weekends, and more than a few helpers would show
from time to time to give us a hand. After the fourth Saturday of working on
the set it was beginning to finally come alive. I would show you those
pictures but they have been deemed classified… |

In the foreground is the War Room ‘rock’ table
where the hologram emitter would eventually be placed. D.C can just be made
out in the background behind the table. The War Room set was built in the lower
bay of a barn located on the Johnson Family Ranch. Pictured below are Alex Jimenez, our Sound
Designer, and C. Antonio Flores |
