Words from the Director

Some inhabitants of the greater STAR WARS galaxy seem to be quite displeased with the look of our Bane character. There has been a wide array of flack thrown at the matter proven by the vast amounts of comments we receive on our production videos on our YOUTUBE channel. Most folks just can not get over the fact that our Bane is not bald, does not nearly reach the 2 meter mammoth mark of the comic and/or book portrayal and his apprentice is not who they think she is. And to top it off our Bane has a nice California tan ;-)  We aim to displease as usual.

With that said lets get down to the way it is and why it is this way and not another. Some folks have the naive audacity and continue tell us to do research about the way Bane looks and have even gone as far as asking us to make a different film or to at least shave our actor’s head. Believers of this narrow train of thought will forever be destined to view the cup as half empty and will truly never recognize the liberties story and film makers possess. Most of these greenies probably do not realize one of their favorite SW characters was originally conceived as an alien of the Greedo persuasion, and that character just happened to be Han Solo. Where was I ?  Oh, that’s right the research thing….

The makers of Resurrection performed exhaustive and extensive research into every facet of the SW galaxy before embarking on what has become an arduous journey. Once again these so called inexpert commenters still have not recognized that Resurrection is not a comic book portrayal nor is it about the happenings in the two books that are now out on the market about Darth Bane. In fact Resurrection is an original work of art written well before the first Bane book ‘Path of Destruction’ even hit the book shelves. In all accounts preproduction of Resurrection commenced in 2005, more than a full year before the feeble book became reality.

I sense great rage from some of you, and it feels pleasurable;-)

This is what people need to realize and understand- There were no books out at the time Resurrection was conceived or written. Information at that time was very minimal. The only information there was to go on was of course a few comics and just a few lines of a person named Darth Bane in the book Phantom Menace which came out shortly before the films release in 1999. Bane’s apparent baldness in the comic version was given to him by its creator and as rumor has it he got the idea from skinheads. When it came time to turn it into a book the writer choose to make up a reason for Bane’s lack of body hair, so he stuck him in a mine, and eventually he lost all of his hair. Our Bane is not bald because in our story he was never, and I mean never a mine worker. Enough said on that piece of work. It just goes to show it was a lack of imagination.

For those who seek the truth, most of our information came from primarily one major source and a bit of help came from Wookieepedia. I did not use the comic books as source material and simply ignored them all together. My main source material was The Essential Chronology written by Kevin J. Anderson and Daniel Wallace, and illustrated by Bill Hughes. It was first published April 4, 2000. With the little information contain within that source the story of Resurrection was crafted. Since then another chronology was published in 2005 with a few added updates, but by then Resurrection had already been written.

Although Resurrection will never be considered as ‘canon’ we feel very strongly that once fans of Star Wars and Bane see the film they will be in awe of the story and will consider all other Bane material to be inept.

Yes, indeed that is a very bold statement, but what can I say I am bald, oh ya I meant Bold;-)

People have been asking for a while now, “When is this thing going to be done?”, and all we can say is- patience my friends, we are getting closer. It’s not what they want to hear, but they deal with it. It takes more time to edit than to shoot when you consider all factors that go into to making it look presentable to an audience and still hold true to the galaxy we are taking part in. Besides the fact that there is only one person doing all of the editing, sound, and effects work. That, in itself is a daunting task for a singular individual to carry out.

Currently the craftsman of the project is adding an addition to his home including an editing room dedicated to the film. Once that is completed we will be on track once again and the final push to finish the project will be at hand. Cast and crew alike are hoping for a 2009 release in time for Comic Con in San Diego, July 2009. But at this point in time it does not look like the project will be ready for the March deadline. A more feasible timeline suggest the completion date will be closer to next Christmas, although we all hope it’s much sooner than that.
